Use Notion AI to Write Content Briefs for Designers
What This Does
Notion AI can generate structured content briefs from a short description — so instead of writing a full creative brief from scratch every time you need something designed, you describe the deliverable in a few words and Notion fills in the standard sections automatically.
Before You Start
- You have a Notion account with Notion AI enabled ($10/month add-on or included in some plans)
- You're logged in at notion.so
- You have a workspace or page set up for your content calendar or creative requests
Steps
1. Create a new page for the brief
In your Notion workspace, click + New page or open your content calendar database → add a new entry. Title it with the deliverable: "Creative Brief — [Brand] April Product Launch Reel."
2. Start with an outline
At the top of the page, type a quick note about what you need:
Reel for [Brand], announcing spring collection launch, 15-30 seconds, goes live April 5, IG/TikTok, tone: playful and energetic.
3. Invoke Notion AI
Press the spacebar on an empty line below your note (or type /AI) → select Ask AI → in the prompt field, type: "Using the notes above, write a complete creative brief for a social media designer. Include: Objective, Target Audience, Key Message, Visual Direction, Copy/Script Notes, Deliverables, and Deadline."
4. Review and expand
Notion AI generates a structured brief with all sections filled in. Read through each section — verify the tone and audience details match the brand, and fill in any specifics the AI couldn't know (exact product name, specific visual assets to include, brand font requirements).
5. Share with your designer
Tag your designer in the Notion page (type @ and their name), leave any inline comments on sections that need clarification, and the brief is ready to hand off.
Real Example
Scenario: You're managing creative for a sustainable fashion brand. Your designer needs a brief for a carousel post highlighting the brand's new recycled-material denim line.
What you type/do: Notes: "5-slide Instagram carousel for recycled denim launch. Key message: each pair is made from 8 plastic bottles. Audience: eco-conscious shoppers 22-35. Tone: proud and educational without being preachy." → Ask AI → "Generate a creative brief."
What you get: A 400-word structured brief with sections for visual direction ("clean, studio-style photos on neutral backgrounds"), copy notes ("Lead with the bottle-to-denim fact on slide 1"), and deliverables ("5 PNG files at 1080x1080px, due by April 2"). Designer gets everything they need in one document.
Tips
- Create a template page with the brief structure already set up — then use Notion AI to populate the variable sections rather than generating the entire thing from scratch each time.
- For recurring brief types (monthly product spotlight, weekly meme, campaign launch), save each as a Notion template block so you're generating AI content into a consistent structure.
- If your designer has Notion access, they can ask Notion AI clarifying questions directly in the page comments — reducing back-and-forth emails.
