For Social Media Coordinators ·
What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have Midjourney set up and know how to generate custom, brand-consistent imagery for social posts — lifestyle photos, product mockup scenes, editorial backgrounds, and illustrated graphics — without a photo shoot or expensive stock library.
What you'll need
What you should see: The Discord app or browser interface with a sidebar showing servers you've joined (initially empty).
What you should see: Midjourney appears in your Discord server list on the left sidebar.
In the Midjourney Discord server, look in the left sidebar under NEWCOMER ROOMS for channels like #newbies-1 or #newbies-2. These are shared generation channels for starting out.
For more privacy, you can use Midjourney's bot directly:
/imagine and the Midjourney Bot will respondTroubleshooting: If you don't see Midjourney in your Discord, go to discord.com and look for an invitation email from Midjourney, or go to midjourney.com and click "Join the Beta."
/imagine → press Tab → the command /imagine prompt: appears.prompt:, type your image description. Start simple:
/imagine prompt: flat lay of coffee mug on wooden table, warm morning light, autumn atmosphere, editorial photography style, muted earth tones --ar 1:1
What you should see: A 2x2 grid of four image variations. Each has buttons below: U1, U2, U3, U4 (Upscale a variation) and V1, V2, V3, V4 (create more variations from that one).
Add these to any prompt to control the output:
--ar 1:1 — Square (Instagram post)--ar 9:16 — Vertical (Stories, TikTok)--ar 16:9 — Horizontal (YouTube, LinkedIn banner)--style raw — More photorealistic, less "AI look"--v 6 — Latest model (most realistic)--no text — Removes any text from the imageClick U1, U2, U3, or U4 under the grid to upscale whichever image you like best. The upscaled version is high-resolution and ready to download. Click the image → Open in Browser → right-click → Save image as.
If you like the composition of image 3 but want a slightly different color treatment, click V3 — this generates 4 new variations in the same style as image 3. Run multiple variation rounds until you get the right result.
